Tips for Bringing Your Dog on Vacation
Bringing your four-legged friend can make your vacation even more special! Here are a few things to keep in mind to ensure a fun and stress-free trip for both you and your pup:
🐶 Find a dog friendly rental – Not all vacation rentals accept pets! Use our search filters to find dog friendly rentals all along 30A / South Walton. Or, scroll down for some of our popular dog-friendly rentals.
🐾 Check Local Beach Rules – Beaches along 30A typically do not allow dogs so be sure to check local regulations before heading out. (Some areas do allow residents to obtain permits, so don’t just go by what you see others doing.)
🐾 Visit a Local Dog Park – The 30A area has several well-maintained dog parks where your pup can stretch their legs and meet new friends. Try a Google search for “dog parks 30a florida” to start your search. Many of the parks have websites and pages where you can get the address, hours, and park rules.
🌳 Explore Scenic Trails – Take your pup on an adventure along one of 30A’s nature trails. Many trails are shaded and perfect for a peaceful walk through Florida’s natural beauty. Visit the Florida State Parks Website to search the local parks map. Click each park’s Website link for a detailed page of information. Most will tell you whether pets are allowed and in which areas.
☕ Check for Dog-Friendly Restaurants – Several local restaurants and coffee shops welcome dogs on their outdoor patios. It’s a great way to grab a bite while your pup enjoys the fresh air.
🌞 Protect Their Paws – Cement and sand can get incredibly hot, especially in the middle of the day. You may want to walk your pup in the early morning or late evening when it’s cooler.
💦 Keep Them Hydrated – Make sure your pup gets plenty of fresh water to stay cool and hydrated. For travel, a collapsible bowl may come in handy.
🏖 Provide Shade – Just like us, dogs can get sunburned! Make sure your pup has a shady spot to relax.
🐶 Pack the Essentials – Don’t forget essentials like food, a leash, water bowl, waste bags, and a comfy dog bed so your furry friend feels right at home in your vacation rental.
