There’s a New Restaurant in South Walton, Shunk Gulley… Happy Eaters, Happy Fish!

There’s a new restaurant in South Walton, and people are talking (and eating)… talking about Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar. It sits majestically on the corner of 393 and Scenic Highway 30A, boasts 2 levels with 40 ft. of unobstructed Gulf of Mexico views from the 2nd level, and provides one of the finest spots around these parts to watch our famous, breath-taking sunsets.

Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar is named after the hard-to-find fishing reef located in front of the restaurant just off South Walton’s Ed Walline beach access. The historic reef has served as a point of navigation for boaters, and was once rumored to be one of the top fishing locations in this part of the Emerald Coast.

The fare is described as classic coastal cuisine with a touch of southern charm and hospitality. The menu includes “Naked” or Raw oysters, $8 for 1/2 dozen, as well as cooked several ways: Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno oysters, Garlic and Parmesan oysters, and of course Southern Fried. The Shrimp & Crab Bisque, Tuna Poke, and Duck Fat Gulley Fries have become fast, local favorites, and no true 30A restaurant would be complete without their version of Yellow Fin Tuna dip. The Sweet Tea Chicken basket is also developing quite a reputation for those non-seafood lovers. The fried chicken is brined in sweet tea.

Shunk Gulley has partnered with SWARA, the South Walton Artificial Reef Association, sponsoring deployment of a new artificial reef structure off the Ed Walline public beach access to help create a more locally diverse marine ecosystem, and we’ve already identified new species of fish, like the juvenile Snowy Grouper that typically live in ocean depths of more than 500 ft. This sponsorship will also help fund additional artificial reefs in Walton County, as well as provide beach-accessible snorkeling reefs for many lifetimes.

The restaurant offers table and bar seating, TV’s all around, and due to its prime location – across from Ed Walline public beach access and Gulf Place – one can enjoy a stroll on our beautiful, white, sandy shores before or after dining in one of 30A’s newest, but soon to be one of our most popular culinary establishments.
