Deep Sea Charters Out of Destin
Destin calls itself the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village and claims the largest fishing fleet in Florida, and the boats all tie up along one harbor. Two things worth knowing before you call: a six-pack boat is licensed for six anglers and priced by the boat, while the big inspected boats take twenty or more and add a per-head charge past a threshold. Bait, tackle, ice, license and fish cleaning are almost always in the price — ask, and ask what the mate’s gratuity usually runs.

If your group is four and you don’t want to buy a whole boat, Olin Marler’s semi-private trips are priced per angler on a 65-foot walk-around with an air-conditioned cabin, a microwave and two heads. Bay & Inshore, Right Here on 30A
The underrated half of the trip. These captains launch from Cessna Landing on County Road 393 or nearby — minutes from most of our homes — and fish the grass flats, jetties and bridges of Choctawhatchee Bay for redfish, speckled trout, pompano and flounder. Four hours, no 5 a.m. drive, and no fishing license needed when you’re on a charter.

Fall is the quiet secret on this coast. The water’s still warm, the crowds are gone, and two things happen in October that don’t happen anywhere else.

The Destin Fishing Rodeo — all of October
Its 78th year, running October 1–31, 2026. Twenty-nine divisions across 33 species, and if you’re fishing off a registered Destin charter boat, your entry costs nothing — most of the fleet is already registered. Weigh-ins run daily behind AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar on the harbor boardwalk, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., free and open to anybody who wants to stand there and watch. Even if you never weigh a fish, it’s worth an evening.

Red snapper, later than you’d think
The federally permitted for-hire season runs June 1 through October 26, 2026 — 147 straight days — so a licensed charter can put you on red snapper deep into October. Worth knowing because the rules are different if you take a private boat out: those anglers get separate fall dates, mostly weekends. It’s one of the better reasons to book a captain instead of towing your own.

September brings the bull redfish run into the backwaters to spawn, with kingfish and cobia offshore. October adds speckled trout, flounder and black drum inshore, with tuna, sailfish and marlin out deep. November keeps going — redfish, flounder, trout, pompano, sheepshead, and the last of the billfish. One local captain’s summary of November: pretty much everything.

Call ahead — every one of these has limits and busy nights, and nobody publishes a price, so ask what it runs when you call.

Run by descendants of Leonard Destin, the man the town is named for. They’ll grill, fry, blacken or bronze it and serve it family style with your choice of two sides. Described as limited to about a pound of fish per person — confirm when you call.

Blackened, fried or grilled, with fries and a side. Named for a trapeze artist, decorated accordingly, and hard to miss from the water. Phone not published on their own site — look it up or just walk in.
How it usually works: the fish is priced by the pound and the sides by the head, and you bring it in cleaned and bagged — which your mate already did on the ride back. None of these kitchens publish a rate, so make the call part of the boat ride home.
